The Body in the Bushes

Fresh Investigations Following the Discovery of Women’s Remains
13 years ago Melanie Hall mysteriously disappeared with no trace and despite in depth investigations by police and private investigators what happened to her remained a mystery until this week when the remains of a woman found on a motorway slip road where identified as that of Melanie.

At the time of her disappearance a huge focus of attention was placed on the case because there was no evidence to suggest that she might have disappeared on her own accord, which is often conclusion many investigations can lead to with missing persons. Given the concern that Melanie had not disappeared on her own accord led to a nationwide search for evidence to her whereabouts including a ten thousand pound reward, television appeals and also extensive forensic investigations.

Hall was a 25 year old hospital worker when she disappeared in 1996 after a night out in the city centre, subsequent investigations at the time found nothing substantial enough to take the case forward and without any evidence to go on the case remained unsolved. Now without the discovery of Melanie’s body there will be a fresh investigation into the case. It is reported that jewellery found with the body led to her positive identification and now a crime scene and body have been located there will be an abundance of evidence to investigate.

Police arrested two men in 2003 in connection with the case but following a negative search of premises and subsequent investigations in Bath both men where later released without charge.

Private investigators often continue the work many police forces have to close when it comes to cases of missing person investigations of those who can cannot be located, often employed by the family of the subject in question, fortunately many are successfully found an reunited with their families.

What the Eye Doesn’t See

Investigating with Non-Verbal Communication
Private investigators and the police often have to under take the difficult task of communicating with and understanding those they speak to in a manner the untrained eye will take for granted, a well trained and experienced private investigator or police officer can often make judgments on the people they encounter from what they see rather the words they hear.

Excellent communication is pretty much the bedrock of successful relationships, both on a personal basis and professionally in the business environment. But what many people fail to appreciate is the fact we all communicate with much more than just the spoken words we use and hear every day. In fact, detailed research informs us that the majority of our personal communication is what we call non-verbal communication, and this is an extremely important skill for the private investigator to hone and use during their investigations.

This non-verbal communication, or as many people refer to it, body language, will include how we use our face expressions, hand gestures, eye movement and contact, out main body posture, and also the tone of our voice.

The skill to understand non-verbal communication is an extremely powerful skill that will assist you connect and understand with others on a level that means you can assess and profile individuals in a way that the untrained person simply cannot appreciate.

This ability to monitor and assess the actions of others is an invaluable tool for many private investigators during their investigations and can often produce amazing results and more often than not help them ascertain whether a subject is telling the truth or not. Police forces also rely very heavily on the ability to profile through the use of non verbal communication.

Private Detective for Kerchers Killer

The man convicted of murdering young British woman Meredith Kercher has now taken steps to hire a private detective in a bid to clear his name of the conviction.

Rudy Guede, 22, originally from the Ivory Coast was given 30 years imprisonment for killing the Coulsdon student in the well publicised case in Perugia, Italy.

The original investigation centred around three suspects but to date on Guede has been convicted in one of Italy’s fast track trial cases which took place last October behind closed doors.

Miss Kercher’s housemate Amanda Knox and Miss Knox’s ex-boyfriend Rafale Sollecito are currently standing trial for the murder which is still grabbing the news headlines across the globe.

Miss Knox who is an American student, and her boyfriend Mr Sollecito both deny they had any involved in the savage murder, claiming they simply spent the night in Mr Sollecito’s flat in Perugia when the murder occurred, returning home to find Kercher dead with her throat cut. Prosecutors however state the DNA evidence at the scene links the couple to the killing.

The court in Perugia was given evidence that Miss Knox’s DNA was present around the handle of a kitchen knife, being linked as the possible murder weapon, while Miss Kercher’s DNA was on the tip of the blade.

The prosecution claim Knox who is still only 21, and boyfriend Mr Sollecito, 25, killed the Leeds University student with the help of Guede who has been classified as drifting traveller.

Mr Guede is now claiming his innocence of the matter and has hired a private investigator Franco Ponzi, of Ponzi Group Investigation to help clear his name of the murder but the private detectives will have to move fast as an appeal hearing has been set for November 18.

The court in Perugia was told Miss Knox’s DNA was found on the handle of a kitchen knife, a possible murder weapon, while Miss Kercher’s DNA was on the tip.

The murder trial is currently adjourned for the summer and is expected to finish by the end of the year.
